Cinderella Prestige Child Costume

Includes a pale blue dress with sheer overskirt, deluxe character cameo, attached petticoat and matching headband. Shoes not included. This is an officially licensed ©Disney Princess costume.
Customer Review: Great Product. Great Vendor.
I bought this dress for our granddaughter. It is so far superior to the dresses I saw in stores I cannot begin to describe the differences. It's a lovely dress. The seller, Buy Costumes, is wonderful. Shipping is lightening fast and they are most helpful in solving problems. We found that the dress tends to run small and they were more than accommodating in helping us exchange for a larger size. Customer service is as important to me as a good product and in this purchase, I got both. And the best price on the internet. My thanks to Buy Costumes and my heartiest recommendation.
Customer Review: Child will feel like a Princess!
The purchase was for a 3 year old little girl - and she LOVES it. The dress is long enough to touch the floor (child is about 3 ft tall) and with all the tulle, it is quite full. She feels glamourous and like her favorite Princess Cinderella. Best addition to this dress was the purchase of the long white gloves - that completes the outfit.

Star Wars Darth Vader (TM) Child Costume Dark Lord of the Sith

Battle the Rebel Alliance as Lord Vader himself! Our costume is complete with injection-molded facemask, flowing black cape, printed jumpsuit and a 3-D utility belt. A great Halloween costume!
Customer Review: Good & Bad points re Mask
My son loved this costume though he wished the mask covered the back of his head too (just like the real Darth Vader). To remedy the problem, we planned to attach a black cloth on it but decided not to in the end since the adhesive might damage the mask. Anyway, the mask is sturdy and made of hard plastic unlike the other masks we got with some costumes before. Overall, it's a good deal to get this costume (except for shipping costs).
Customer Review: uniform
Don't waste your money. The mask hurt my son's face. It wasn't even dollor store quality. Sorry, I usually do not give bad reviews.

Ninja Swords Halloween Costume Weapons

Ninja Swords Halloween Costume Weapons 30 inches long
Customer Review: Not ninja
Aside from being very flimsy, it isn't even a ninja sword. Ninja swords aren't curved they're perfectly straight. Katanas (which would have been just as "cool" to name the thing) are the ones that have a curve. It makes a decent "generic Asian" sword for a kid's costume, but otherwise it's a waste.
Customer Review: Flimsy and breaks easy
I bought this sword because I needed a good, plastic sword to spar with. It arrived on time, but the blade is very flimsy, and in fights it often shook back and forth. It was fun to fight with until it broke (Which was in 3 weeks.) If you want a sword to spar with, keep looking. You might even want to take a look at a boken (wooden sparring sword,) those look really good with costumes, and hardly ever break (only after intense boken-on-boken battles do they crack.)

This toddler costume is made from a polyester satin and has a very soft feel to the fabric. Please note white turtleneck and tights are not included in the price. Childrens Halloween Costumes.
Customer Review: not as cute as pictured
I just received my order and I am disappointed. The material is not as it is pictured; it is not a soft material like it looks in this picture but rather that rigid "satin" that so many cheap Halloween costumes are made out of. Now that I look closer at the description, I do see that it says satin but it is a reach to use that term. Furthermore, the colors are not as portrayed. The costume I received is a green body with white stripes; the colors are not soft and pastel but more bright. It is also difficult for me to believe that the store will not accept any returns of Halloween costumes after September 16. I understand the need for a policy that costumes can't be returned, but so far in advance of the holiday? I guess it is still a cute costume but it is not what I imagined it would be. Maybe I will feel differently when I try it on our daughter and I will update this review later, but for now I am very disappointed.

Peter Pan Halloween Pet Costume

Customer Review: not really as pictured
I had high hopes for this costume, it looked like exactly what I needed from the picture. When I received it though, it was a bit different. The hat in the photo is cute, with both green and brown fabric, and looks large enough to go with the rest of the costume. In reality the hat is a tiny green beanie with a feather glued sloppily to the side. There is no brown band at all. Also, the collar on the main part is pictured as brown, but the one I received was green (although that's a pretty minor thing). I noticed the costume came with a tag with a photo showing the same one as shown on Amazon. Too bad it really doesn't look like that.

Where you throw your holiday office party helps to determine the type of business holiday party invitations, food, drinks, games and music you will need, establishing the tone for the entire event. Finding an available venue is hard enough without the added pressure of letting the space determine everything from corporate holiday party invitations to party favors, but in fact this process can be far simpler if you allow your venue to be your guide!

Letting your location determine the style of company holiday party invitation, decorations and favors you offer makes party planning as easy as choosing a venue. If you find a great little French bistro, for instance, simply send chic corporate holiday party invitations to a wine and cheese affair. If you prefer a rustic Italian eatery, select warm and festive business holiday party invitations evocative of the close atmosphere of a family-style feast. If you choose a beautiful ballroom for your event venue, opt for elegant, metallic silver and gold corporate holiday party invitations for a gorgeous gala feel.

Alternatively, if you host the party at your own home, send out friendly and fun company holiday party invitations, but be sure to maintain a hint of formality to separate your personal Christmas party from the business event.

Also, if the party is at a personal residence it is especially important to indicate on the corporate holiday party invitation what kind of food and drink guests can expect, ranging from a several course dinner to just appetizers and snacks.

Instead of stressing out over your search for the perfect location to match your holiday party theme, why not let this year's office holiday party be based around the perfect venue instead!

Using Christmas lights to decorate for Halloween are a great way to get extra use out of colored lights you may already have in your attic. Pull them down and try discount store for more sets to fill in or for more variety in color, spacing, wire color and higher quality, check out online vendors early to find just the perfect sets.

Orange and purple mini light sets - both incandescent and LED versions - look fantastic when they're draped across shrubs and bushes. Tree branches and tree trunks will also appear festive yet spooky wrapped with mini lights. Decorating your yard for Halloween is perfect for the person who would like to leave his or her Christmas lights up for several months but can't (at least not technically!).

Fog machines are easily obtained online or from your local retail store. These machines are great for creating a smoky area around the doorway of your home. Outline your front door with orange and purple mini lights. They'll look really cool glowing through the smoke! Rope lights are the perfect choice for creating small or huge spider webs on a black background (a black piece of fabric from your local fabric store works great).

In the yard, use purple mini lights to outline gravestones for an eerie look. Then, use Christmas light stakes to string lights around the graveyard so it looks like a fence. To welcome your guests, line your sidewalk leading to your home with C7 or C9 transparent lights in orange and/or purple.

Haunted houses are a huge attraction during Halloween. Some people just love to be scared out of their wits! If your organization is setting up one of these October traditions, use opaque C7 and C9 or LED C7 and C9 bulbs and cords in purple or orange to cast an eerie glow anywhere you need it inside or outside the haunted house.

Outline coffins, creatures, black holes, dark doorways, or trap doors with our purple, orange or green mini lights. LED lights have the advantage of staying really cool so if you have alot fabric hanging with your lights, consider going that route.

Accent a plastic witches cauldron with red and orange mini lights that have a built in controller - set them on the slow fade function where they come on and go off very gradually and they'll look like glowing embers if you add a thin layer of black organza to your pot!

There's no limit to your imagination when it comes to using lights to decorate your home inside and out for Halloween. Just think of what would scare you!

Shellie Gardner, owner of Christmas Light Source, has a passion for Christmas lights and enjoys helping her customers make every occasion special with lights year 'round. With more than 450 different lights sets and bulbs to choose from, the friendly team at Christmas Light Source can help shoppers select the latest in decorative lighting from one of the widest varieties of LED and traditional Christmas lights available on the web.

Background behind the Nativity Scene

The nativity scene is a time honored tradition that is seen in many homes, and is an integrated part of Christian religions and the yuletide season. It is the representation of the Christ child usually placed in a manger with his mother Mary and father Joseph in a stable with some farm animals. The purpose of the nativity scene is to bring to mind the actual reason why Christmas is celebrated.as this is a physical representation of the birth of Christ.

The first three dimensional representation is credited to St. Francis of Assisi. The Jesuits of Prague in the year 1562 are attributed to the first modern crib style nativity scene. Santons are clay figurines used in the south of France, mainly Provence that are used to represent the nativity and can consist of hundreds of figurines rather than just the main set that is normally seen.

Through the use of the figurines placed with the crib empty until Christmas Eve, the Shepard on Christmas day, the three wise men on three kings day, the entire story of the birth of Christ can be told out with these representations. Depending on the area, a nativity scene may not be taken down until February or it may be removed as early as January 15. Of course, there are some who remove it right after Christmas. It depends on the particular traditions of the family or group putting up the nativity scene and how traditional they may be. The nativity scene is also a story and so often times a church or group will put on the Christmas time play of the Nativity. The story is of Mary and Joseph finding no rooms available, and Mary about to give birth, finding shelter in a humble barn, or cave, depending on the story, where Mary gives birth to Jesus.

A nativity scene usually consists of a barn or cave that is large enough to house the figurines that are going to be used. There is usually a small crib, a baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, various animals and it may or may not include the Magi or three wise men and the Shepard, angels, or the Star. The pieces usually vary based on the type of nativity scene and how complete it is, many people simply have a sheep, ox, the crib, barn, Mary and Joseph and Jesus.

The nativity scene has many different representations and can be crafted from any materials. From large plastic representations that can be lit from the inside and used as lawn decorations to small figurines made out of crystal, glass or stone. Nativity scenes can even be made out of modeling clay, paper or felt. They may be a picture, or a three dimensional representation. There are outdoor nativity scenes which are placed in front of homes, or much smaller Hummel or Fontanini nativity sets which can be placed on tables.

The nativity scene represents the birth scene of Christ and is an important symbol to the Christian faiths. It reminds people of the humble beginnings and that Christ was born to simple and humble people. It represents the important things in life and serves as a reminder of these things to the people who view it, as the nativity symbolizes the true meaning of Christmas.

Ghost hunting and paranormal investigations are becoming increasingly popular with amateur ghost hunters, in part due to the easy access of information on the internet and current television shows about hauntings. Since the spirit of Halloween revolves around the souls of the dead returning to earth to haunt the living, Halloween night is considering a "prime time" for hunting ghosts. It's an annual right of passage for both amateur and professional ghost hunters to be out in full gear that night.

Ghost Hunt - going to a location that may or may not be haunted and trying to capture them on film (video and/or photos). A graveyard late at night is the number one place to start.

Ghost Investigation - going to a known haunted place and recording data (video, photos, audio and temperatures), taking notes, interviews and other evidence to prove/disprove the haunting and existence of ghosts.

For many the quest is to seek out allegedly haunted locations, authenticate evidence of ghosts, do research and conduct investigations into paranormal activity. Among ghost hunters, some are also devotees of urban exploration, a growing hobby where enthusiasts venture into abandoned structures such as hospitals, asylums, and sanatoriums. The more experienced hunters investigate and document reports of ghosts, hauntings and paranormal activity; where as many of the amateur ghost hunters are just out to have fun.

The definition of a "haunting" is a recurring presence of a ghost, demon, or similar supernatural being at a specific place. Old houses, hotels, restaurants, pubs, prisons, cemeteries and graveyards are the most common haunted places. Belief in hauntings and ghosts spans the world and is recorded throughout history in legends and ghost stories.

There are five primary types of hauntings:

  1. Intelligent - may be a ghost or demon. The entity is aware of its surroundings, including living people who may be present.
  2. Residual - the entity does not seem to be aware of any living beings and performs the same repetitive act (often the reenactment of a tragic event).
  3. Benevolent - a ghost that seeks to help or protect the living sometimes from an evil spirit.
  4. Malevolent - ghost or demon that seeks to inflict harm on the living.
  5. Benign - entity that is either unconcerned about the living or unaware of their presence.

What better time of year than Halloween to check out some of the "hauntings" in your neck of the woods! Whether you're a more experienced paranormal investigator or just out for a night of ghost hunting, the souls of the dead are waiting for you on Halloween night. Good luck and happy haunting!

The holidays are quickly approaching, which means you will soon be facing temptation - stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, pecan pie, Christmas cookies, chocolate, and many more holiday favorites just begging to be eaten. How can you resist?

For most people the holidays mean loosening the belt buckle and making room for a few extra pounds to start the New Year. Many people will work to lose this weight over the next few months while others will watch the scale creep up year after year. This is definitely one holiday tradition to be avoided.

Here are some tips to help you enjoy the holiday fare without sacrificing your waistline.

Portion Control

There is no law that says your plate has to be overflowing at the holidays. Yes, the options are endless and you may want to have some of everything; however, you do not need a normal portion size of everything. This is a good time to cut your normal servings in half to make room for all the extra foods you want and prevent you from carrying the extra calories around for weeks to come.

Seconds

Before heading back to the buffet line or asking someone to pass the potatoes listen to your body. Are you really hungry or just eating more because everyone is still sitting around the table? If your stomach says "no more" start helping with cleanup to avoid the temptation to fill another plate or suggest moving away from the table to continue your conversation.

Desserts

Undoubtedly there will be numerous goodies to chose from. You have two options to avoid calorie overload. Decide which dessert is your favorite and stick with one serving or if several are tempting give yourself "mini" servings of each so you can sample a little of everything without going overboard.

Alcohol

Decide in advance when you will enjoy a drink, for example after dinner only. If you have a plan in place you are less likely to go overboard. One alcoholic beverage quickly adds 200-300 extra calories.

Snacks

Often when we sit around visiting there is a bowl of candy or some other treat nearby. Limit yourself to one or two pieces. If this is not feasible move the treats out of reach or out of sight if necessary. Another option is to wait and have your dessert as an afternoon snack instead of immediately following a meal. Healthier snack choices include mixed nuts, almond bark covered pretzels, or party Chex mix.

Activity

Holidays are intended as a time to spend with family. That does not mean you have to sit all day visiting. You can catch up on what is going on in each others lives when taking a walk after lunch or shooting a game of hoops in the driveway. Look at where your family is gathering and decide what options you have to get up and moving after a filling holiday meal. It is a safe bet that the children at your holiday gathering will not be entertained sitting and visiting or watching a ball game most of the day. Take a break from the adults in the afternoon to interact with younger family members. This will give you a chance to add some physical activity to your holiday.

The holidays are a time for family and friends as well as all the delicious holiday foods. I do not recommend spoiling your holiday fun by trying to count calories. By following a few simple tips you can reduce your normal holiday intake while still enjoying all the foods you like and avoid adding inches to your waistline.

When you think of Valentines Day, typically your thoughts venture toward valentine gifts and all things heart-shaped candies, chocolate, balloons, greeting cards, jewelry, etc. and couples deeply in love gazing into each others eyes.

Because Valentines Day is for lovers, right?

Actually no. Ladies, there is joy to be had on this infamous day of pink and red, no matter your couples status. Here are some fun ideas for the annual day of love that cover the spectrum of companionship: single, dating, committed relationship, or recent break-up.

If Youre Single . . .

Dont allow yourself to be one of the cynical singles who scowl at any hint of Valentines Day decorations or gifts. Instead: embrace the day!

Thats right. Were in the new millennium, a time when being single is fabulous. Sex & the Citys Carrie Bradshaw made being single more appealing than ever before. You dont have to wait for a significant other to get you a gift buy it yourself! Few things make a girls heart flutter more than Valentines Day jewelry. From a modest bracelet to a diamond ring one of the joys of being single is you can give yourself the gift youd be giving your significant other.

And there are ways to enjoy the day other than buying yourself a gift. Remember when Carrie threw herself a party after years of buying gifts for her friends wedding and baby showers? Transfer that idea to Valentines Day, and have a blast:

Host a party for just you and the girls

Take yourself out on a date, by yourself, to a museum, the movies, dinner or any combination of the three

Buy Valentines Day cards and pass them out to people who are dear to you

Help make someone elses Valentines Day better by volunteering at a non-profit or charity for the day, such as a battered womens shelter, a soup kitchen or the Goodwill.

If Youre Dating . . .

Youve been dating a guy, but youre not yet exclusive, and you dont know if he plans on spending the evening with you, another girl, or the guys. First ask yourself: Do I really want to spend Valentines Day with him?

It is, after all the most romantic day of the year.

If the answer is yes, this can be an opportunity to take the relationship a step further by:

Cooking him a nice dinner at your place

Offering to bring dinner to him at his place

Setting up a double date with friends (so you can get their feedback on your new beau later)

Asking him to set up a double date with some of his friends (you can learn a lot about a guy by spending time with his friends)

If youre flying solo on the big day, you can live the day as a single gal (see the Single subheading above for ideas).

If Youre in a Committed Relationship . . .

Whether youve just moved in together, he just popped the question with a diamond engagement ring, youre newlyweds or youve been together for a number of years, Valentines Day is an opportunity to specifically set aside time for your relationship.
So take advantage of it!

You can start the day with an exchange of gifts. For ideas, keep in mind that Valentines Day jewelry, chocolates and flowers are traditional gifts for a reason there are few who would protest these types of gifts. But rather than going to the place where you spent Valentines Day last year, or where you spend the day every year, be spontaneous and mix things up a bit.

Knowing your significant others interests, tailor a surprise event to both of your liking such as:

A couples massage

Something fun and silly like playing Laser Tag or going to the video arcade to compete in video games

Something crazy that youve never done before but the two of you have always wanted to do, like bungee jumping or hang gliding

Take a hot air balloon ride

Pop the question - theres no better surprise for Valentines Day than receiving an engagement ring

Planning a Valentines Day different from what youve experienced before will give you something to feel good about, give your beloved something to brag about, rekindle the spark or keep the spark going.

If Youve Just Been Through a Break-Up . . .

When youve just dumped someone or youve just been dumped, as a newly-single, the explosion of pink and red that define Valentines Day can leave you depressed, craving romance and longing for your ex.

You just need a little extra TLC. Heres a few ideas to really take good care of you on this special day:

A day at the spa get the most luxurious package that you can afford, and absolutely enjoy spoiling yourself

Retail therapy doing a little damage to the credit card never hurt anybody, and Valentines Day jewelry may be the perfect pick-me-up

Unconditional love Spending the day with someone you love and who unconditionally loves you a manicure with your grandma, grabbing lunch with your dad, or catching a matinee with your mom may be just what you need

Theres something for everyone on Valentines Day. Just look at the annual celebration of love as an excuse to celebrate life, and you are sure to find something fun and enjoyable to do. Enjoying the most romantic day of the year can be achieved with or without a valentine.

Halloween activities are enjoyed both by Adults and kids. The term Halloween is derived from the Halloween day which is celebrated on 31st October since many years. A large number of superstitions and symbols are related with Halloween such as ghosts, fairies, witches, goblins etc.

In Halloween activities there is a custom of decorating with leaves, cornstalks and pumpkins. While organizing fun Halloween activities you must see to it that they are harmless to others and they should not involve any activities which may be injurious. They should be fun for all present and not only the organizers.

Nowadays, Fun Halloween activities are organized on birthday parties and other kid's party and kids have a gala time enjoying these activities. Special costumes are worn in these activities and kids dress up like witches and ghosts to celebrate Halloween party. Different types of pranks are played in Halloween parties. These pranks are enjoyed by both kids and adults.

In a Halloween party Fun Halloween activities play a very important role apart from the indoor and outdoor decoration which must be done up according to the theme to give a scary look. By giving a horrific and scary look to the decoration the special effects of the Halloween party can be attained. The food and drinks served in this party should also be devilish and freaky in nature. This will create the perfect atmosphere in the Halloween party.

Before selecting the fun activities to be organized in party, you must keep in mind that these are enjoyed by people of all ages attending the party. It must be as pleasant and enjoyable in watching as in playing. Skill and fun games can make part of Halloween activities in a party.

Bobbing for apples and ghost story telling had been traditional activities in a Halloween party. Other trendy games which call for doing disgusting and scaring acts by participants generally go well in a Halloween party. Resemblance of blood, human body parts by toys and other things can create a scary yet healthy atmosphere.

Blind touch game in which participants are made to touch something which will resemble blood and human parts are perfect for Halloween activities. Use of worms, bugs, snakes etc. made of rubber or other materials and making kids touch them blind folded and telling them that it is real can also be great fun. In a big group of kids, you can also organize freeze dancing where the kids will dance to the tune of a CD player and will stop dancing and freeze in scary postures as soon as the music stops.

If you are a peace lover and do not want too much noise and music etc. you can opt for arranging fun Halloween activities which can be played peacefully. There are lots of Halloween riddles, puzzles, crosswords, worksheets and books etc. which can be enjoyed thoroughly by children without making too much of noise. However, a Halloween party without noise and screams will seem to be incomplete. So, you must put in few activities with good round of screaming and shouting so as to make children get the real feel of Halloween party.

Adult Halloween Penguin Costume

Customer Review: Best Costume Ever
No one at the office Halloween party could believe my boyfriend actually wore this, but man... looks great when you are dancing under a black light strobelight! All the ladies wanted to dance with the Penguin. Shipped fast from Brands on Sale, Inc. This is the third costume I'd purchased from them, and I think I'll use them regularly from now on.

How many times have you seen on your local news, stories about children being hit by a car on Halloween night because they dashed out into the street without thinking or ran out between parked cars? It breaks my heart when I hear something like that. For a child Halloween is such an exciting and fun night that sometimes they forget all the safety rules you've ever taught them. They are so excited to get to the next house that they shoot across the street without even thinking of looking both ways. I've seen it many times in my neighborhood (thankfully no cars were coming); especially when kids are following each other and one falls behind. They dart across the street just trying to catch up with their friends.

On a normal day, most parents know what safety precautions to take when it comes to their child's safety, but do you know the extra lengths we should go to on Halloween night? It is our responsibility to make sure the children are safe. Even the littlest precautions can mean a lot.

  • If you're driving, you have to be aware of the children. Drive SLOWLY! Watch for children to run out between cars or in the middle of the street. This is so important to stress if you have a teenage driver. When backing down your driveway be careful to make sure it is clear. Do not pass stopped cars, they may be unloading children.
  • Have your child wear clothing with reflective markings or tape. There are also glow sticks, pumpkin flashlights and other similar items that you can buy to have your child wear around their neck or pin to their costume so that they are clearly visible to motorists after dark.
  • Accompany your child around the neighborhood. If you can't, make sure another adult is with them to supervise. As a parent you know if your child is "old" enough to go around the neighborhood with their friends without you, however it helps to have them wear a watch so they know when the trick-or-treat hours are over and when to head home. Always know exactly where they will be and what route they're taking.
  • When picking out a costume, look for one made of flame-retardant material. Avoid loose-fitting costumes or billowing material which could accidentally come into contact with a flame. Make sure they have on comfortable shoes that fit.
  • Check your child's costume and make sure it's not dragging the ground where they could trip and hurt themselves. Face paint is always a good substitution for a mask, however if they do have to wear one make sure they have nose and mouth openings and large enough eye holes so as not to block their line of vision.
  • Make sure they know to only go to houses that are well lit and ones that they know someone is home. They should never enter a stranger's home.
  • Have them bring their candy home first before eating anything. Go through it with them and throw out anything you're not sure about. Have them eat dinner before they go out trick-or-treating. That way they're not as hungry and won't fill up on too much candy.

On Halloween night it's tradition in my family to order pizza and have it delivered. It's such a hectic night with trying to get everyone situated into their costume that it's easier than fixing a big dinner - plus the kids love it. But remember to order early because apparently it's not just a tradition in our household. If you were to ask anyone what the most iconic representation of Halloween is, the most common answer would be a carved pumpkin, or as it as commonly referred to, a Jack o' lantern.

The folklore behind Jack traces its origins to an Irish legend (or ghost story) about a greedy but crafty farmer named Jack. Jack managed to trick the devil into climbing a tree, and after doing so, sealed the devil in place by carving a cross on the tree. The devil did not take this lightly, and laid a hex on Jack - condemning him to eternal limbo on Earth. As he wanders the earth, he carries an ember that the devil tossed him that would never burn out - as it was from the flames of Hell. Jack carved out a turnip and put the ember inside it - wandering for a place to rest his soul. For this, he retained the name "Jack of the Lantern", which then was contracted to "Jack o' lantern".

History behind carving pumpkins dates back to before the Great Famine, when many Irish immigrated to the United States. Carving lanterns from vegetables started with turnips or swede - and did not acquire the name "jack o' lantern" until the early-mid 19th century. The practice of carving pumpkins is associated with a time of harvest, and did not become associated with Halloween until the mid to late 19th century.

The Jack o' lantern in its early years was always depicted with a face - and that face would be of many different forms, from comic to monstrous. In the late 20th century, artists began using precision instruments to put more artistic flavor to Jack, making him look like cartoon characters, people, or various symbols.

Have fun scooping out Jack this Fall!

Halloween is an awesome holiday, so much more worth celebrating than just collecting candy from the neighbors. In our house Halloween planning began in late September. One of our family favorites was the tradition of "ghosting". We would find Halloween decorations, attach a small bag of candy and make cards that read "Happy Halloween. You've been Ghosted.. Pass it on!" Then we would take these and go all around town to their friends' homes and put them anonymously on the doors. As you can guess, the Ghosting spirit spread and so did the smiles!

With four children all trying to come up with costume ideas, it was also a challenging time. When they were small, we did our share of Princesses, Super Heroes and cute Animal costumes. Those were easy. However, as they got older they were annually in pursuit of "group" costume themes with their friends. We had The Wizard of Oz, hippies, Snow White and her dwarfs, sports teams, diva girls and even sailors to recall just a few. Half the fun was the discussions and planning that went into the process. Numerous trips to the party store, rummaging through closets, raiding Grandma's attic, making tie-dye t-shirts and raiding the girls old dance recital costumes were just a part of the fun. Of all the costumes I can recall over our 20 years of Halloween, my favorite had to be my son and his friends back in 1996. They decided to be the US Womens Olympic Gold Medal Gymnastic Team, complete with their own Bela Karolyi. They won Best Costume in the local parade and were the buzz of the neighborhoods as they trick or treated their way through town. It is memories like this that made me glad that we never settled for a quick costume purchase at the local store. Halloween truly was an event in our home.

We furthered the Halloween celebration with a huge Halloween party for all 4 kids, their friends and included the parents. This was no ordinary "Pin The Tail On The Pumpkin" party. This party evolved over the year into a "mega" event that in the kids memories was as big a part of Halloween as trick or treating. There were usually close to 40 kids plus at least 20 parents. They ate, went on a scary scavenger hunt and ended the night with a spectacular, very frightful, performance put on by the Dads. One year those crazy guys came parading down the street in full costumes, beating bongo drums, chanting and carrying torches; followed closely by a police car. It took a bit of explaining but the show went on! They would plan their show for weeks and it would change every year. One year it was a Monster Mash rock show, a sance a year later and a ghost from the graveyard on the loose in yet another year. Amidst the screams and the shrieks, there was a ton of laughter. Yes, like the costumes, this took a lot of work but was worth every moment of the planning.

So celebrate the Halloween season with all your energies. I can tell you from first hand experience, there will come a day when they are all out of the house and you will sorely miss all the fun and excitement. For more ideas, read further about our family Halloween celebration traditions at

I thought, with the holiday season nearly upon us, that it might be entertaining to look into the history of the greeting card. I discovered an eclectic blend of history, numerical facts, and amusing anecdotes. So let's take a moment during this hectic holiday season to relax and learn a little something about the Christmas Card.

- The custom of sending greeting cards dates back to Ancient China. In order to celebrate the New Year, the ancient Chinese delighted in sending messages of good will. Early Egyptians utilized papyrus scrolls to send their greetings. New Year's tidings were being produced in Germany as early as 1400.

- The origin of the Christmas Card is in England. They are a product of boys practicing their writing skills. The boys would practice by making cards for their parents.

- Sir Henry Cole commissioned the first commercial Christmas cards in London in 1843. Sir Henry was extremely busy that year, and as a result was unable to compose the typical individual greetings. The simple message, "A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You" was found on the inside. John Callcott Horsley produced an illustration for the card that depicted a happy family hugging and toasting with their glasses raised. The drawing was disparaged by critics for promoting intoxication.

- In the US, Louis Prang produced the first commercial Christmas cards. He was a German immigrant, who in 1856 started a little lithographic business close to Boston. He is considered the creator of the greeting card industry in the United States. More than five million cards were being produced by 1881. His cards gained increasing popularity through the 1890's. Prong stopped producing greeting cards when cheaper imports came onto the market.

- The first official White House card was issued in the year of 1953 by President Eisenhower. 2000 cards were sent out by the White house in the year 1961. The amount grew to 1.4 million by the year 2005.

- Today's Christmas cards can be bought as singles or in large boxes. Individual cards are usually sent to somebody special, while the boxed ones are very helpful for your more general Christmas Mailing List. The majority of holiday cards are sold in box form.

- In 2006, 2 billion people in the US sent cards.

- That means, 85% of people in the US mailed cards in 2006.

- Approximately 33% of the holiday cards purchased each year contain a religious message.

- About a third of all annual greeting card sales are related to holiday season.

- Christmas cards are the most popular cards of a season. Christmas cards account for 60% of all card sales. A distant second is Valentine's Day at 25%.

- The U.S. is home to approximately 3,000 greeting card publishers.

- "Merry Christmas" is the preferred text for 54% of holiday card purchasers. "Season's Greetings" is liked by 12 %, and "Happy Holidays" is preferred by 21%.

- When it comes to decide which boxed cards to buy, 56% of us take the decision based on the variety of cards available, and for 63%, price is the most influential factor. Shopping with online distributors can easily satisfy both conditions. Unlike a typical store, they can display more cards without space limitations.

I hope you enjoyed this little ramble into the story of the Christmas Card. As is evident, this annual holiday rite, is of major interest to everyone, everywhere.

Nothing says "Halloween" like a hand carved pumpkin, dimly lit from within by a candle that sheds light on its eerily creepy face. Yes, year after year, jack-o-lanterns continue to be a very important part of Halloween.

Although jack-o-lanterns are carved from pumpkins in the United States, the tradition began differently. Halloween celebrations in Scotland and Ireland originally involved the use of similar, yet smaller jack-o-lanterns that were made out of turnips. Pumpkins, though, whose orange color has come to be directly related with Halloween, are a lot easier to work with while carving out a face.

When choosing a pumpkin to use as a jack-o-lantern, make sure that it is not overly ripe. If a pumpkin has strong smell or sounds hollow when you tap on the outside of it, it is too ripe to be used. Don't forget to seriously consider the color, shape, and overall condition of the pumpkin when making your selection. You want to pick the very best pumpkin you can for your jack-o-lantern. And, after picking one out, don't hold onto it by its stem, since it could snap apart and leave you with a squashed pumpkin instead of a jack-o-lantern.

The first steps in turning a plain old pumpkin into a scary Halloween jack-o-lantern are cleaning it, drying it, and cutting off the top part where the stem is located. Then, get all of the soft flesh and seeds out of the pumpkin. You will want to be left with just the thick surface of the pumpkin flesh. Since you need to be able to place a short candle inside the pumpkin, it is also important that you make sure that you leave the bottom of it flat, stable, and reasonably smooth.

Removing all the pumpkin innards is done most easily with a big spoon. After you do that, you can move onto the face carving process.

The best plan is to make a design on paper for your jack-o-lantern before you go ahead and start slashing up the pumpkin. This will ensure that you are really satisfied with the face you put on your jack-o-lantern. You can make the design yourself, buy stencils, or print one that you find online.

Once your paper design is complete, tape it onto the pumpkin in the position you want it. Then, punch lots of small holes with a sharp instrument in the pumpkin flesh, following your pattern.

When you take the paper off, your design will be outlined on the pumpkin and very easy to carve out exactly how you want it.

Now's the time to start planning your Halloween costumes for this year. Don't wait until it's too late and the good ones are all sold out. Get lots of fun costume ideas on the Get In Costume website, where you can also get a free copy of my report "The Family Guide To Halloween Safety."

Trying to decide how to choose the best baby costume for Halloween? Want to make certain your little one is as comfortable as she is adorable? Then you've come to the right place! In this article we want to talk to you about choosing the best baby Halloween costumes for your little dear, as well point out a few examples of great baby Halloween costumes created by Tom Arma - the king of comfort and cute when it comes to infant Halloween costumes.

Choose Comfort First

Probably the biggest mistake parents make when choosing a baby costume for Halloween is grabbing the first adorable costume they find with little regard to how comfortable their child is going to be. The absolute first thing you must remember when choosing a baby costume for Halloween is that your infant is not yet old enough to understand why he or she is being paraded about in such uncomfortable clothes, and if you've chosen the wrong sort of costume for her - you'll spend more time trying to comfort a crying baby than you will getting those great pictures of her first trick or treating experience.

Try to choose baby costumes for Halloween which are made to feel like pajamas instead of being binding for your child. Even if he or she sleeps through the entire experience, at least you'll have the peace of mind knowing that she's comfortable as well as cute. Also, a lot of parents forget that Halloween is typically a pretty cold night, so be sure to choose a Halloween costume for your baby that will keep her snug and warm.

Costume Safety

Another thing that's easy to forget when choosing the right baby Halloween costume is that many costumes have extremely small pieces attached to them, or masks and other such accessories, which aren't safe for babies. It's important that you remember to choose a costume which is (preferably) one piece, and doesn't have any parts that baby can pull off and swallow accidentally.

It's also important to remember that masks, makeup, and other props don't have any business being on a baby's Halloween costume. These are for older children and adults only, as they pose a serious safety threat to infants and toddlers. No matter how cute a costume may look when it's hanging in the store, it's more important that your child is safe when she puts it on.

Tom Arma Halloween Costumes

Now that you know how to choose the best baby Halloween costumes, you're probably wondering where to find the best costumes for your little one. One of the most amazing designers of baby Halloween costumes is Tom Arma. His animal baby costumes are as comfortable and safe as they are adorable; and they are priced affordable enough for almost any budget. In addition to providing your baby with a great experience for her first Halloween, Tom Arma's baby Halloween costumes are excellent for photography, as well.

As you can see, ensuring that your baby has a fun and safe Halloween is really quite simple. All you need to do is remember that comfort and safety are the most important parts of choosing a baby Halloween costume, and your little one will be sure to have a great first trick or treating experience!

Greek Goddess Halloween Costume

Be the star of the party with this Greek Goddess Costume!
Customer Review: Costume
The Costume was not in a good condition and it was smelling. For the same price I could have get a new and unused product.

The main eye catcher of the night was my napkin rings which I specifically made for the event. Specifically at a formal Christmas dinner party, the individuality, class and style of the table setting and food preparation leaves an impression on your guests, so a nice representation of table setting is a great way to leave a positive impression on guests. A colour scheme, table cloth, card placements, table mats, napkins, plates and cutlery are the main characteristics of any table dinner. An expense that can seem high for this time of year due to the need to buy gifts and other necessities on the run up to Christmas.

They took me no longer than three quarters of an hour to make 14 of them. However, on some occasions it's all about appearance, appearance, appearance! I recently hosted a dinner party for a group of friends and I stunned my guests with the things that I had made personally and things that were so easy to make. As with many things, you can reduce this cost by creating minor things at home that can help towards the needs of the event. Nevertheless, these things come at an expense. At Christmas we get a chance to shine and explore with the colours and the presentation of a cooked meal. Christmas dinner is all about the taste and range of food on offer.

Tools
Glue gun (recommended) or PVA glue
Scissors Shower curtain rings, the colour of your choice - I recommend them to be the same colour as your chosen colour scheme (as many as necessary for the number of guests) Satin ribbon, the colour of your choice
Green artificial leaves
Artificial leaves, the colour of your choice

Preparation
Step 1: Take a shower curtain ring and place on your work surface.
Step 2: Arrange the leaves and ribbon onto the curtain ring until you are satisfied with the arrangement.
Step 3: When you are completely satisfied, take your glue and glue each piece into place ensuring to hold the pieces in place until they are secure.
Step 4: Leave to dry.
Step 5: Repeat the steps for each napkin ring you desire.

And there you have it. As simple as one, two, three, four, five. A perfect and simple way to make your Christmas dinner look stylish and leave a positive impact on your guests. This process can be re-enacted to make napkin rings for any occasion simply by changing the decorative tools used for the design.

Celebrating Thanksgiving With Your Kids

Thanksgiving is an American tradition that truly celebrates family - a time in the year when relatives and friends get together and exchange notes on what's gone by. But what does Thanksgiving mean to your kids?

While they look forward to meeting their favorite uncles and aunts, maybe even receiving gifts from them, Thanksgiving has no special activity that caters exclusively to them. A whole lot of adults meeting to catch up on the family news, over an elaborate dinner, is hardly something to excite kids, so that they are largely left to themselves, and may end up feeling a bit left out.

As a dad you can help your kids by explaining the meaning of Thanksgiving. Knowing about it and what it stands for will help them appreciate the essence of this celebration.

Getting children to help with preparing the Thanksgiving dinner could be another way to make them feel included. Not only does it make them feel responsible, they'll look forward to the event of the actual dinner much more if they've had a role to play in its preparation.

5 tips for the best Thanksgiving ever

1. Keep it simple - Even if both you and your spouse like a Thanksgiving table over-flowing with all the possible Thanksgiving items, consider cutting back on some items or getting store-bought items. The stress you eliminate will make everyone enjoy the meal more.

2. Involve the kids - There are plenty of things they can do, from baking a simple pie or setting the table. Make sure you give them plenty of credit in front of all guests for the job they've done.

3. Pitch in - The year is 2008 and women no longer work all day in the kitchen while the guys lie on the floor waiting to be called to the table. Be proactive - volunteer for work you'll enjoy and get into the spirit cheerfully. You'll be happier doing a good deed without being nagged about it. And face it, you'll have to do a bunch of stuff anyway, so you're better off getting points for doing it on your terms.

4. Create traditions if you want to create meaning - Kids thrive on traditions, even the ones they might complain about in their teen years are the ones you may see them re-creating twenty years from now in their own homes. The best traditions are ones that have meaning for the family because they relate to the family history or have taken on a history of their own over time. Don't shy away from creating your own traditions, however. Some examples:

* A prayer said by the youngest talking member of the family.

* Allowing each child to choose a food item that is served every year.

5. Consider not drinking alcohol during Thanksgiving - while this might be difficult for some to imagine, you may want to give it a try if previous holiday meals were emotional or anger-filled.

Keeping Christmas Simple

It started four Christmas Seasons ago with a conversation with my husband that went something like this, "How about if I decorate the inside of the house and you decorate the outside of the house?" His response was, "I don't really feel like decorating the outside of the house this year". Hmmm. I chose not to respond (must have been a good time of the month) and instead took some time to think about it. My conclusion was this, I didn't really feel like decorating the inside of the house either. And, I knew I really wasn't going to feel like undecorating the house come the end of the Holiday Season. So my answer to his response (a few days later) was to make my husband a deal. If he wanted the inside of the house decorated (which included the putting up of a Christmas tree), then he would have to decorate (and undecorate) the outside of the house.

Well, we didn't decorate for Christmas that year nor have we decorated since. I mean no tree; no lights; no wreaths; nothing. While I was a bit sad the first year, I must say that I have come to enjoy not stressing about decorating. I don't have to sit down with my calendar and work decorating into my already crazy schedule. No searching for the boxes labeled "Christmas" stuck somewhere in the attic; no wrapping and unwrapping all those dainty little ornaments; no untangling lights and checking all the strings for the burnt out bulbs.

We still listen to Christmas music; we still enjoy viewing other people's decorations; but we just keep it simple in our home now. I have even found that since we don't have a tree in which to place presents under, that my spending on gifts has diminished quite a bit, as well.
